What Sav and I have been up to down at the tattoo shop?
I believe I posted a picture of the original ring of flowers I have had on my back for quite some time.
Well, I decided to turn it into a backpiece...
This is not completely done yet.. so bear with us, but the majority of it is finished now.

Hmmm, I think I may have lost track...
Was an hour and a half to color in the wings lastnight...
I think it was maybe an hour and 15 minutes to color in the hair and ivy...
I can't remember how long the outline took. That is generally quicker work though.
Maybe an hour? It was a bear on the left side. I wasn't liking that at all.
As you can see, she is quite large.
The flowers have been there for about 10 years, but I recently got the color touched up.
On the fairy, she still needs shading done on the body, as well as some finishing on the face, and the butterfly in her hair that we forgot to color lastnight.
There will also be some grass and flowers along the bottom for her to be resting on.

Beau, she is beautiful.  I'm not a tat fan (sorry) but I think it's partially because the one's I have seen don't have much beauty as far as color.  Her wings are just beautiful in color!!!  May I asked how badly that hurts?

It's gorgeous!  I love her wings, they have a very translucent quality to them, which I can't imagine is easy to do.  Can't wait to see it all finished!  I have a couple tats that I'd like to get (none yet), but both have some size to them, so I keep chickening out.  Plus I'd like to lose a little weight first.  And on top of that, I'm scared that it won't turn out as good as I have it pictured in my head.  So, one day...maybe I'll have to make a trip down adn see you guys!

First of all, yes Carol, it does hurt.
It is nothing like a normal needle poke that people think of when getting a shot.
It is more of an irritation feeling, like a scratching.
The most accurate description I ever heard of it was when Sav was telling someone it's like when you have a sunburn and accidentally scratch it... the good part about it is that it is not a constant irritation, as it starts and stops the whole time. They have to wipe, and dip back into the pigments, etc... So it only hurts as long as they are actively tattooing.
Some people are better than others with the pain too. When I got the wings done, I started up the ipod, and just got into my zone and had no problem with it at all. I have a good friend that falls asleep every time she gets tattooed! Then again, there are those that can't sit still, as they think they are dying!
And saucy... I'm not sure how weight loss distorts tattoos further on down the road, but it doesn't help them out if you do it beforehand. I can tell you firsthand. I have lost a bit of weight recently myself and that was the main problem I had with this tattoo. They have to get a good stretch of the skin to do a tattoo, and if you have lost a bunch of weight there is a bunch of loose skin. I have that problem right now on my sides. That is why it was such a bugger over on that left side when he was stretching the skin. The pressure of having him stretch honestly felt worse than the tattoo, as it was just driving me crazy and felt like he was going to poke his hand through my ribs!
Anyway... either way, you are more than welcome to stop on down anytime if you'd like to get a tattoo down here!

that's a good description of the discomfort-I can imagine it.  Either way, her wings are the prettiest tatoo coloring I have ever seen!!  My son came through and thought it was cool....he wanted to know how much something like that would cost to have done.....could you give me a guesstimate so I can let him know. thanks.

Price wise... a LOT...
The only reason I have it is because I know the boss man fairly well!
 
When you get into larger custom pieces they charge by the hour, with most places being at least $100 an hour.
Well known artists are much more than that.
You can add up the times below... and that was just for the fairy part so far. The flowers were more hours on top of that.
I suppose it's a good thing they have to go in multiple sessions, just so they can afford to pay for them!

Wow, pricey but that's a lot of time for the artist.  My daughter's best friend went for a tat in a parental rebellion whim.....it's terrible.  It's a cross on the ankle-green filled in with yellow-not attractive and very large for her petite ankles.  I fear she's going to regret that choice.  I'd go for a bumble bee on the ankle or the Christian fish, but not a woa big cross on petite little legs and really not the yucky yellow and green she got.

I love it. Its huge! Great colors too.

My two shoulder tats didn't hurt. The one on my ankle tried my pain tolerance a little, (it was my first, I didn't know *what* to expect) but the one on the back of my hip hurt like a sonofabitch so I give you credit....that one looks like it hit a few owie spots!

You really have to have trust in the person you choose to tattoo you.
Word of mouth is good, but you really have to look at a persons work and attitude before
you let them work on you. I guy with a bad attitude can really make for a bad experience.
Most shops/artist are charging 150 and hour now..and more popular artist are charging
500 or more minimums just to get in on a bigger piece appointment with deposits required.
I'm really happy myself with the color shading on the wings, and they healed just as nice if not better.

I have thought of getting some ink for years but never seem to do it.
For me it would have to be something that would never change in my life.
So being Sicilian I  thought a trinacria shoulder cap would be cool.
Never been happy with the ones I've come across and most seem to be uncolored.
I think I would like at least some color shading.

i`d like a dragonfly or a butterfly to represent transformation. my b-i-l wants the lion ascott from chronicles of narnia...that was his namme right? my mom drew it out...now just a matter of taking it to "the man" to get it done. i like your idea joey

I think the lion is Aslan, if I remember right. I loved those books when I was a kid.
Dragonflies and butterflies make for neat tattoos too.
There are some really cool looking ones out there.
