and folks were worried about all the coyotes in the area.
Now we have to watch out for mountain lions.

I'd bet on it was a pet at one time (maybe when little) that someone maybe tried to release when it got too big.  I'd be curious to see what the necropsy results were.  It's a shame they had to shoot it - I understand they may not have had time to get a tranquilizer gun to the scene, but I still wish it would have worked out differently in the end, it's a beautiful animal.

A relative of mine lives up north a bit in PA (more towards Indiana county) and they have coyotes up there, a pretty good population.  Concerning coyotes, I'm just happy I have my five foot fence and live in the suburbs.  If one did get into town, I would assume it'd avoid climbing the fence if it didn't have to.  I have heard stories of them grabbing little dogs that weren't supervised near wooded areas. (more out in the country.)  Even foxes I'd be afraid of with my dogs.

Then again, every night I check the area near my garbage cans in case theres coons or possums in them, which too often there are even if I dont have garbage out. (I bungee cord my cans, bricks dont work, they got them open still.)  I know they'd go after one if they seen one, and those things can fight nasty if they're cornered.

I live in the Chicago suburbs and we have coyotes everywhere. BTW a 5 foot fence won't stop them. Tehy can't jump it but if they can get there front paws up on top they can pull themselves over.  Part of the problem is the building of housing complexes and the destruction of their old habitat. but even so when I was younger and there was country all around I do not remember seeing a coyote. I actually think that efforts in the past 30 or so years to clean up the environment has resulted, in our area, of the  natural reintroduction of species that had been gone for quite some time. We now have beaver, muskrats, herons, some river otters, etc in places that thyey haven't been in years. It figures that predators will follow them into the same area. we just gotta all live together

We have a few cyotes in the woods right on our property.  One actually walked right through the middle of our yard in broad daylight.  On the up side, they keep all the rodents away and we all know how I feel about rodents!! We have a smaller fenced section that I take the dogs out at night.  It is right next to the house with a door to the garage and a bright light.  Don't want no cyotes and don't want the dogs chasiing a skunk so that works just dandy.
