Hello!
I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas or knows of any fencing that is dog-proof/resistant for gardens...
Last year I bought some wire picket fences (something like this but taller) for my garden that were the tallest I could find, to keep the dogs out of the garden. Unfortunately, the spacing between the wire is too big and the dogs just go right through the fence!
So, I bought a few rolls of paw-proof plastic screening meant for a screen door, and attached it to the fence. This doesn't look very good, and the dogs still manage to find weak spots where they can push through...
I need some kind of fencing that the light can still get through but which keeps the dogs out! Most of the garden fences I've found are very short, I need something 2-3 ft. tall...

I used the white, picket looking, plastic type fencing stuff, but they plowed right over that too...
I end up putting it back up a couple times a year.
I don't know what it would take to keep them out permanently. I haven't seen any in between sizes... There was always either the short ones, or the full height ones.
Dang naughty dogs always digging through the flower beds!

Yeah they plowed through the metal picket ones a couple times too... Tongue

It's not the flowers I worry about so much as not wanting them to use my herb or vegetable gardens as a potty place!  Tongue

Well, in our case, we only have the short fences around the flower beds.
The vegetable gardens we fully fenced using t-posts, and then ran the mesh snow fence around it. That way light could get through, but animals could not. We zip tied it to the t-posts. It looks terrible, but keeps the dogs out! There is a regular gate set up on one end.
And yes, that's what drove me nuts about the dogs too... finding the poops in there. Or, as I am weeding, I realize that there is a strong smell of urine in that spot... EWWWWWWWWWWW

I use fencing like this vinyl one from home depot to keep the dogs out of the part of the yard I don't want them in.

Joe, is that full sized fencing though? 4 feet high fencing? Or is it the short stuff?
I just wish there were something in between, around the 2 foot range, or even 2 1/2 foot range.

I think this is just a bit under 4 foot.
Check out home depot or lowes for other sizes.
How big an are do you have to fence in?

Well, our flower bed goes most of the way across the front of the house, minus the patio area on the left side. I think when we measured it before, it was about 50 feet long, by about 2 feet deep.

Exactly... I don't want tall fencing but the real short stuff is no good for the dogs! I'm looking for about 2 feet tall or so.
The area I need to fence is also probably about 50-60 feet long.

Personally... Roll Eyes I'd like to do a raised garden on that side of the house, about 3' high off the ground. but, that would need to wait till we get ready to redo the outside of the house so I can remove the FAUX finish from the walls and get some brick to build the raised up planter...then we wouldn't have to worry about the dogs in it.  Tongue

All of our gardens are raised.  The dogs are fairly good about not going in them, and the entire front yard is fenced, they are rarely in there without us (also that is where the pond is, and i don't really want Argus to go swimming).  Jurny particularly likes the one by the side door where the cats poop in the winter...bleh.
