Ozzy the orange cat is acting weird

Ozzy goes outside everyday and licks at the bottom of this cut down tree. I dont know what kind of tree it is. I took pictures of him doing it. Its kinda funny, watching him, but makes me worry a little about what he is taking in. Heres a link to a small slide show if you would like to see it. Feedback is welcome, Thanks, Judy
