A strange forum question.....

So, years and years ago when I was 17ish (like, ow. that was 12 years ago ) my mother was a big fan of a dog-specific chat room. I'm almost positive she said it was acmechat, or acmepet or something along that line. It was a pretty hoppin' place at that time.

So my question is, how long as this forum been "in business"? And did it used to be in streaming format instead of a threaded forum? The only thing I can remember about the regulars was dox was my mom, wolfie was a woman that had a couple dogs and went through some rough times with trying to have children of her own, and a woman that used to have a couple whippets we met at a dog show in Ohio once, was sadly killed a few years ago when a car struck her on the side of the road when she stopped to help some dogs that had been hit by a car. I believe her name was Leadan or Leadon or something like that.

Anyway, the name similarities between the two boards just hit me today (I'm a bit slow at times lol) and I got to wondering if they were one and the same? Anyone?

Wolfie I haven't talked to in years. She does websites, and if you look in my links, you can find her website listed as "Wolfie's Joint". The other person you are speaking of may be Liadan? If so, I am sorry to hear that she was killed in such a tragic accident. Most of the people you are talking about are from way back in the beginning of AcmePet.
Yes, you could say this is the offspring of AcmePet. Several years ago AcmePet was bought by PetSmart and found the chat rooms to be non profitable. They wound up closing both the chat rooms and the message boards rather abruptly. We do have streaming chat rooms here, as well as these message boards. The chat rooms have people there at times, but it is easier to catch people on the message boards.
Believe it or not, Sav and I met in the dog room of AcmePet, which is why we could never let it die when it closed. Here we are all these years later.

I can't believe this is the an offspring of the same place and it never even dawned on me til yesterday.......

Yeah, Dox is my mom, and I talked to her today and she informed me I got a few peoples' names wrong. It wasn't "Wolfie" it was "woofie", (apparently there are two with the same name, different spellings?) and it wasn't Liadan (but she does know her too) it was SweatPea that was killed. And she had italian greyhounds, not whippets. (hey what can I say, I was pulling all this out of the memory banks from 12+ years ago lol)

She also knew who I was talking about when I read to her that you and Sav met in the dog room.

Go figure. Small world even on the internet.

Ok woofie makes more sense to me, as I believe Wolfie has older children.
I remember woofie too. If I remember correctly, she and your mother were close.
And it was SweetPea that was lost to us..

Earliest I was on here was in the 90s.  Some regulars I remember off hand were labby, n2rotts, i think metz?, and I remember Shalva, chocolab, KTsMom, rexrode rotties... a lot of the evening chatters in the chat rooms...ohhh who else... they are starting to fade but I remember a lot of the names to hear them...  I didnt chat much those days as I was in classes but crazy to remember the yrs gone by.

Yep, I remember chatting with all of them offen, I was known as LurkMaster because I was in there so offen just lurking waiting for people to chat.
 There was another site with chat and forums that was started by some of the moderators from Acmepet, but that site has been gone a while now.
Times do change...I tried my best to have an exact chat format of acmepet, but the people that developed that chat format shut down their business too. And people spread out all over, chat rooms became less popular, and some people clashed with others and didnt' want to use a chat room anymore....it's been a long road to where we are, but we do our best to keep it here and up and running for us die hards and for sentimental reasons.
 N2rotts and RexRotties, Mariah, Mas, Reb, Cosmo, and a few others pop into the general chat room now and then..it's more like a TAG BOARD then a chat room these days.
 but they are there for everyone to use, and we do offer private chat rooms, some kennel clubs rent those rooms to have their meetings in, it helps to pay for the site bandwidth.
 But, yeah, crazybird, tell mom's I said Hi and Hugs!
 Metz...she's here now and then in the Forums.

dox goes back to the very beginning of Acmepet. She was one of the early ones. As well as the others CrazyBird is referring to. This was around 85-86 if I remember correctly.

I miss the old style streaming chat rooms. When I was moved out on my own and working second shift I spent WAY too much time chatting from my old apartment. lol. I enjoy threaded forums now but the streaming chats that were essentially uncensored and open to everyone were some great chat rooms.

I wonder why they're not as popular anymore?

I was there as well, as Ch_Tremaine (I think?).  There was also Carol with the cockers, I can't remember her screen name, I chat with her from time to time on a BC pet rescue board.  She was in a terrible accident and nearly killed last year.  there was also Mr and Mrs Christa (who have been through some trying times as well in the past few years and are not Mr/Mrs anymore), a lady with labs who I chatted with;  Ja-something who had GSD's and got an Aussie.

So many, I miss the old boards, tons of fun!

That reminded me of westie and sentaCD with the dobie i remember chatting frequently. i found an old link to their websites, the one chatter with the Am staffs had a "friends" page on their site. All either shut down or haven't been updated in years.

And yes, Romeo, I remember Bluecat. She was such a wonderful person, and is sorely missed.
saucy, you mention Mr and Mrs Christa. Our Ziggy(Mr Poop) happens to be a Mr and Mrs Christa mastiff! We went up to their place to pick him up in person!
Mr Kai came from Mariah who bred pugs, and our GSD that we had came from Fraby who bred GSD.
It's amazing how many dogs we picked up along the way from the people we met in the dog room! LOL

I mentioned to our daughter what her user name used to be and she not only forgot, she doesn't remember using the name pocahantas, but, that was "Forever ago!"

I forgot what name I used on the original Acmepet... It might have been Chicagocanine because I use that a lot of places... I am not sure when I started there but I mostly stuck to the Golden message board so it was probably 98 or later because I got Ginger at the end of 97.
