A few recent pics...

One of the sheep

One of the lambs

I have four sheep, two of the white ones (St. Croix) two of the dark faced ones (katahdins).

Turner, around a year old...i think just under.

The four of them.  Argus 5 years, Impulse 1 yrs, Turner 1yrs, Jurny 10 yrs.

Impulse and Jurny

Silly Jurny

Yes, we were doing hay photo ops before I piled it all in the basement.

Turner, just under a year

The four kids in the field before the sheep had access...it was a bit overgrown.

Miss Squirty (aka Impulse), I dunno, sometime around a year old.

Got my car back after 15 years!

Stanley

And Stanley again

Flame here on vacation

the cutest puppy on the whole planet, Turner somewhere around 9 months old with his sheep

There's my summer in reverse chronological order.

Sauccie, I love love love the pics of the 4 on the hay bales!!!  What fantastic photos.  Impulse is stunning; I was not familiar with that color Aussie until her debut on here.  Are the sheep & lambs pets?   I ask cuz we had a family goat that was just as loving and well trained as the dogs.  I'm a sucker for farm animals, only I make them all into pets.....not pretty on slaughter day Embarrassed Thanks for posting.  What kind of camera do you have??

Thanks guys.

I didn't get a new camera...I just have permanently borrowed my mom's.  She got a new camera that is between her big DSLR (which I have for now, a Nikon D70) and our little cameras which she likes better because it's ligther.  That's fine with me!

Carol, Quest was the same colour as Impulse...just a bit different shade.  There are only four colours of Aussies, Black, Red, Blue merle, Red merle.  I have one of each.  However, you throw in "with or without copper and/or white trim" and you can end up with 16 colour varieties, all whcih can look very different depending on teh amt of white/copper etc, shade of red....

Here are some examples of different reds:  http://www.ashgi.org/color/red_aussies.htm That doesn't even show teh true range, some are very light.  I'm lucky, so far Impulse doesn't fade in the sun, which is so common with reds.  I hope when I breed her that I can maintain her rich colour as it is not all that common.

The sheep are for workign the dogs on.  The St. Croix will likely be leaving as unless they shape up, they can't stay.  They won't move for teh dogs, and have already created a confidence problem in Impulse.  The lambs are evil, they will attack the dogs given a chance.  All of them are going off to "sheep camp" to learn how to be good proper herding sheep.  If I can't find a good retirement home for the older girls, they will stay here I suppose until I can find them something.  They're very sweet, just not suitable and take up room that I need for workable sheep.

Are you kidding or is there really a training camp for sheep who serve the herding dogs???  Awwww, send me the old gals, I love 'em.  Can you have herding sheep be pet sheep??  Sorry, never had a herder except my great grandpa's and he was a mutt who would 'go get 'em in Shep' and he would go across the road with Papa and round up those sheep and get them to the barn-no formal training, lots of ticks and mange most of the time.

no, not a real camp.  They are going to a friend's where she does lessons, so they will get worked a lot more and by a wider variety of dogs than I have here.  Hopefully the lambs can learn some respect.  None of my dogs will bite them when the lambs get nasty, which is what they need.
