Hi all...I haven't been on this board for several years...Something that happened recently made me want to share this with ya'll.

My little min pin was so small I never would get her spayed for fear she might die from the anaethetic.  She developed pyometra (sp?)  that destroyed her kidneys and liver as well as her female organs...no symptoms presented until it was too late.

The vet tells me that if a female doesn't
breed this will happen almost every time...that all female dogs should be spayed by 5 years old to avoid the condition.

Ya'll may know about this already but I didn't and I lost my best friend.  I wanted to share this with ya'll so in case you don't know -you, and most importantly your baby,  will not have to suffer like mine did at the end.

My vet was wonderful about it and let me hold her while she went to sleep...but it could have been prevented!  There is a way it can be prevented.  http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/dpyometra.html

Apparantly it also affects cats...something to research

I will be ok but I miss my BooBoo Bear

Hi Deedy --- I'm so sorry to hear about your baby.   I too have small black and tan dogs  Grin  I have a mini dachshund girl  named Zoey and a mini dachshund mix named Pooh. Both are black and tan.  I also have a cocker/poodle mix who is mostly Poodle, her name is Simba.  They are both spayed and I didnt have a problem with them at all.

My mother had schnauzers (most sizes) through her whole life, including a mini that just passed away a year or so ago.  She also has a 14 yr old shih tzu that is spayed, and all went well with the surgeries. She never had a little one have any complications from spaying.

I'm sorry again, I couldnt imagine something like that happening so suddenly and to a young vibrant dog.   Do you have any other pets??   Grin

My dogs:
