Went to my driver training for slalom racing.  I of course kicked butt.  They were very impressed, told my dad he was gonna have to watch out for me, I'd soon be beating him!  I was the most aggressive novice out there, and even more so than some of the experienced drivers.  I have total faith in our little car, which makes it easier.  We race a little 1972 MGB that has had a bunch of work done to it specifically for slaloming...it was a ton of fun!  I will post some pics as soon as I get them.  First race is in two weeks, same course we ran yesterday, so should be fun.

My Dad races MGA's (1959's) in vintage races and really loves it. He recently bought a Morgan and is getting used to that now.

My dad has a 58 MGA.  He used to slalom it, until the throttle stuck and it was just a little too close to the concrete barrier when it finally stopped.  He has since fixed up the B, which isn't so pretty to look at, but goes good!

He's been doing it for about 20 years now and generally beats the cars he really shouldn't just by out driving them! Really drives them crazy in his little MGA's! LOL
Now he's got the Morgan's muscle so he should do even better once he gets used to steering from the right and shifting on the left! Boy, that would mess with my head!

don't mean to sound TOTALLY dumb, but WHAT ARE you all talking about???  Is this like Nasacar....cuz if you're just talkin' about goin' round cones real fast, my cousins can do that on the hills of Ky. half drunk on any normal day.......

No, aussies is talking about a slalom, which looks like the weave poles dogs do in agility (I believe... never seen it done with cars... only skiing!!)
My Dad races on a regular racetrack, not an oval... so there are hairpin turns, corkscrews, etc.... the cars turn both ways going around the tracks where he races.
He goes all over the west coast... California, Oregon, Washington, and B.C. just as a hobby though. He has a lot of fun with it though. He teaches drivers school, and my Step-Mom works the corners, and sings the national anthem for the races.

There's the slalom part, which is like weave poles, there are also right angle turns, 180 degree turns, cones that you have to do 360 degrees around etc etc.  And you have to do it as fast as possible, without knocking any cones over.  Its also referred to as autocross or Solo II

Hey, that looks pretty cool-I wanna try.  What'd ya mean 'get your license'?  Do you have to have a special license to compete on the track??

I dunno...don't think I said anything about getting a license.     Nope you don't need a special one, but when you are actually racing your insurance is null and void, so something to always keep in mind, you smash up your car racing and you get nothing for it!

I live in Canada...we have health coverage no matter what we do!     Of course if you also had a private insurer you would want to look into that.  I just go with BC medical, I pay nothing and it gets me what I need.  Except dental...can't wait till I have dental coverage again.

Hmmm, I never thought of that... I'll ask my Dad about his health insurance.... he's never been in a bad wreck with his... He had a student wreck one of his cars once, but never wrecked one on his own, and never been hurt racing in all those years!
I know they have medical checks every year, as he has to jump through some pretty big hoops each year as he goes up in age... and he has had heart bypass surgery and he had to make sure he wasn't on certain meds and such (no blood thinners, just in case, etc...). They want to make sure if something did happen, the driver would be in optimal shape.
