We have 2 mailladiies who job share the job.  Both know we have 3 dogs-one is scared to death of dogs and won't even put mail in our rural type maibox if one is in the yard for fear of them rinning up to her.  The other is dog savy and if ever there is a package, leaves it on my porch.
We have a front porch and a side garage entrance.  The garage entrance door is always open cuz that's how everyone comes in and out.  I was in the kitchen and heard the garage door into the house open...it's waaaay to early for kids to come home and everyone else knocks.  Sonny made a low growl and all 3 dogs took off to that door.  When I got there, there was a stack of mail with a very small package. sitting on my hallway floor.  The package could have easily fit in the mailbox and nobody in their right mind would come into my house without knocking with my dogs.  I know neither maillady would attempt to come into my house......very strange.  Sonny has jumped at every noise since.  Man am I glad I have dogs.  Sonny can be pretty intimidating and I am positive he would bite if I was in a dangerous situation.  Tater is pretty intimidating with her size and tiger coloring....Levi, well he's cute but unless he tripped a prowler, he wouldn't do much harm.  Kiinda eery though.

It must have been a sub or something that didn't know about the dogs.
Though with them being mail carriers, they should know better.... sheesh!
I know ours will leave boxes on our front steps, in the Explorer that is left out front (no one is driving it right now, since we got C a different car) or if it's big, in the barn. But no one would ever open the door and leave it in the house! Some of them have seen Mr Poop!

Nobody for any reason should open a door to your house without permission!

Very scary, I'd be worried, and VERY thankful for the dogs.  Great how they keep an eye on things.  Thats the same reason my sister wants a larger dog...
When my mother lived in the city, same area, she told me a story of caution, when there was one instance that someone had broken into the neighbors house in the middle of the night, pretty quietly as the neighbor recalled to my mother, and she heard something strange like a door opening and checked her 15ish daughters bedroom to find a 30 something looking man had a knife to the daughters neck and was obviously about to rape her.  VERY disturbing, and this was years ago.  Later on in trial they found out the guy had been around the area for awhile, witnesses seen him around, and they found out he had been watching the girl for a few days and knew the situation in the household before he broke in that night.  (No dog, man was away, etc) Luckily, another younger person in the house was able to phone police but knowing it was next door to a house I near grew up in gave us all a reality check!  WONDERFUL to know we have some protection and peace of mind in our babies.  Mine is the same way as your Levi.... she wouldnt be able to do much but signal bark and run for her life along with us!!  However, her alert barking is invaluable to me as a woman living alone.

Glad you're safe!

Woa, that is scary; especially with my 16 year old daughter.  She is very wise and cautious but there are some very wicked and messed up ppl out there.
