My neighbor just called me and told me he had to place his mother in a special home as she has dementia - she had a cat that she loved to pieces - he said she'd constantly kiss it and give it treats - but he is unable to take cat as he lives in a no pets allowed condo - as I do. He is keeping the cat in the garage - of his mom's house and told me he feels he has no choice but to eventually put it to sleep as he can't continue to just feed it He knows it needs love, etc. He said if someone can foster it he'd be more than willing to donate whatever. I could probably take a picture of it and email it as a .jpg if anyone is interested.

Cat's info:

male - neutered
name: Rusty
Age: about 8
color: All orange
weight: "medium" weight
LOVES to be held and is used to it.
Original owner's son is not sure if this cat likes dogs or other cats

Thanks VERY much for any direction. Neighbor feels cat is distressed at the loss of the owner - neighbor told me cat is eating but seems to 'know" owner is gone.

I would post your information on this board there are lots of rescue people there and they might be able to help.....I wouldn't tell them that i sent you because they hate me because i bought a purebred kitten.... but they are good folks and might be able to help.

Here is an organization near southern, CA.  They are rescue, not a shelter.  If you give them a call, they may be able to quickly direct you somewhere.. whether they can better walk you through how to adopt the cat out yourself (how to make sure you make the right choice for a home) or else know a rescue that has room to take her in.

Best of luck.  And it's great to see that you are trying to help her find a home!!
